Diabetes can result in severe complications, including limb amputation, blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, stroke and premature death.
Diabetes in Canada account for over two and a quarter million people (estimated), with about a third of adults being unaware that they have the condition. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in Canada, with more than 60,000 new cases each year. It is estimated that 40% of Canadians with diabetes will develop long-term complications.
